The Lion King Jr.

The Lion King Jr. On May 20th, the African Savannah will come to life on stage at the Capitol Theatre. Be prepared to be wowed as you are transported, through song and dance, from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again!

The award-winning Broadway musical, The Lion King, features music from the original 1994 movie soundtrack by Elton John and Tim Rice, as well as songs by South African musician, Lebo M. The Lion King Jr., recently released by Disney, is an adaptation of this much loved production of an inspiring pan-African coming-of-age tale.

Thirty-six performers, ranging in age from 9 to 15, have been working since October under the guidance of local dance instructor Shaenna Young, musical director Kathleen Neudorf, and director Marcelo Goncalves to bring this production to the Nelson community.

No expense has been spared, thanks to the generous support of the BC Arts Council and the Nelson Waldorf School, in this grand production of The Lion King Jr. From the rich African cloth imported specifically for the costuming, to the professional mask-making provided by local artist, Myra Rasmussen, the play features cultural and design elements from across the African continent and is sure to delight audiences of all ages.
