Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Everyone's favourite flying car comes to life on the Capitol Theatre stage this summer!

This July, come and take a fantastic musical adventure in an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas with this season’s Summer Youth Production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!! Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming's children's book, this musical features an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a family-friendly “truly scrumptious”.

On Monday July 3rd, the Capitol Theatre Summer Youth begin an intensive full time rehearsal schedule that wraps up with a run of 5 performances from July 27-30th. This beloved family favourite, directed by Geoff Burns, Allison Girvan and Lynette Lightfoot, is an incredible immersive experience for participants to dive into a rich performing arts experience. The Capitol is happy to be embarking on the 29th year of the annual Summer Youth Production. A big thank you to the Nelson and District Credit Union and the Rotary Club for their sponsorship in support of this invaluable youth program!

An eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts (Quinn Barron) sets about restoring an old race car from a scrap heap with the help of his children Jeremy (Emerson Kelly) and Jemima (Lisa Bruckmeier). They soon discover the car has magical properties including the ability to float and take flight. Trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst (Dune Macdonald) desires the magic car for himself. The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious (Emma Chart) and batty Grandpa Potts (Kosmo Sammartino) to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness (Julia Halbert) and their villainous henchman, the Child Catcher (Shasta Barkman).

Filled with amazing choreography and unforgettable songs, (including the Academy Award nominated title song), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is ultimately a feel-good story. A cast of 40 local students ages 12-19 years old will be presenting this heart-warming story about the power of family and the bonds created to overcome any obstacle. Come join us for our annual summer production!
