Dance Locale 2017

Dance Locale 2017 Due to an overwhelming response of attendance from the local school district, the Capitol Theatre will be at capacity for this presentation.

Dance Locale 2017
Celebrating Indigenous Dance & Culture

The Capitol Theatre, in partnership with the Kootenay Lake School District and their Aboriginal Education Department has collaborated to build programming around the cultural significance of indigenous dance and culture.

The project, Dance Locale 2017, is one that has provided an inclusive and open opportunity for our community to engage with Canada’s history through artistic expression, building a deeper understanding of our past, present and future.

Indigenous dancers and groups have been working with schools in the district providing in-school educational programming. Then on December 7th, 2017, a day-time event, hosted by the Capitol Theatre, will showcase elements of the programming as well as feature solo and group performances, represented by multiple indigenous nations.

This event also concludes the fourth and final event of Dance Locale 2017 – a community dance project funded in part through the Canada 150+ Heritage Fund. This project seeks to provide an inclusive and open opportunity for our community to engage with Canada’s history through movement and artistic expression.

Admission is free.
